San Francisco Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguía is the author the short story The Other Barrio which was adapted for the film of the same name by Dante Betteo and Richard Montoya. Murguia is also the author of This War Called Love, (winner of the American Book Award,), The Medicine of Memory: A Mexica Clan in California, and Stray Poems. Currently he is a professor in Latina/Latino Studies at San Francisco State University. He is the Sixth San Francisco Poet Laureate and the first Latino to hold the post. Murguia has a cameo role as El Poeta in "The Other Barrio". On Sunday, September 11th, the Chicano International Film Festival will present a special screening at the ArcLight Hollywood, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and Mr. Murguia.
